The North Mitchell occurrence is located on a steep south facing slope, north of the Mitchell Glacier.

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Mitchell (MINFILE 104B 103) occurrence and a completed regional geological and exploration history can be found there.

Locally, copper oxides have been identified precipitating along several creek gullies and rock faces in an area of small porphyry stocks and dikes above the Mitchell fault. Disseminated chalcopyrite in hosted by variably veined and altered porphyry and surrounding silicified or hornfelsed sediments and transitional contact intrusion breccias. The porphyry is a distinctive reddish-purple crowded potassium feldspar-quartz porphyritic granite, which is conspicuously lacking in ferromagnesian minerals. Hematite dusting is ubiquitous, and magnetite is disseminated in veinlets with quartz. Mapping has indicated that an area of at least 600 by 400 metres is underlain by the intrusive.

In 2003, rock chip samples yielded values of up to 3 per cent copper from zones of quartz veining with associated disseminated sulphides (Lechner, M.J. (2007-04-06): Mitchell Creek Technical Report).

In 2004, a sample collected near the northwest end of the magnetic high from a strongly silicified felsite dike hosting pyrite with trace molybdenite and chalcopyrite assayed 0.11 per cent copper and 0.96 gram per tonne gold, while a sample of silicified andesite with quartz stockwork veining and minor chalcopyrite and molybdenite in veins assayed 0.27 per cent copper and 0.20 gram per tonne gold (Lechner, M.J. (2007-04-06): Mitchell Creek Technical Report).

In 2005, three drill holes tested the zone yielding intercepts of up to 0.18 per cent copper and 0.10 gram per tonne gold over 127.5 metres from the surrounding hornfelsed sediments and up to 0.14 per cent copper with 0.08 gram per tonne gold over 114.6 metres from intrusion breccia zones and magnetite cemented hydrothermal breccias, while one hole penetrated the Mitchell fault and yielded 0.26 per cent copper and 0.25 gram per tonne gold over 66.3 metres (Lechner, M.J. (2007-04-06): Mitchell Creek Technical Report).

During 2008 through 2012, diamond drilling yielded intercepts including 0.16 gram per tonne gold and 0.36 per cent copper over 143 metres in hole M-08-79, 0.47 and 0.48 gram per tonne gold with 0.24 and 0.10 per cent copper over 26 and 37.3 metres, respectively, in hole M-10-121 and 0.06 gram per tonne gold with 0.10 per cent copper over 288.4 metres in hole M-12-129 (Lechner, M.J. (2014-03-31): NI 43-101 Technical Report on Initial Deep Kerr Resource).
